WEEKLY ROUNDUP (September 2010, wk 3)

Every week, The Signal will be offering up a Weekly Roundup: a collection of mini-reviews, TV news, interesting links and varying television-related thoughts that weren’t big enough to merit a full post on their own. Enjoy!

Reviews, Thoughts and Other Ruminations

Nikita 1.01: Nikita looks stunning – both the series and the lead, Maggie Q, who does wonderful work with a very weak script. It feels like a late-90’s syndicated show in the vein of Relic Hunter with better production value. As I grew up on those, I found it largely entertaining and amusing, but for those with less appreciation for that genre, it may be less enticing. The cast is full of recognisable, likable faces like Shane West (doing his best Voice of Batman impression, which detracts very much from his attempts to be a badass here), Melinda Clarke and Lyndsey Fonseca. The star here is Q, though, and she’s the main reason I’ll eventually check out the rest of season one. Here’s hoping the scripts tighten up by end of season, though.
