Introducing…NBC’s Comedy Night Done Right

What is it?: Comedy Night Done Right is a heavy-hitting lineup of NBC’s best comedy offerings, airing every Thursday starting at 8pm. It’s an hour and a half of hilarity that turns every Thursday into feel-like-a-small-child-on-Christmas day.

What’s the lineup?: Community airs at 8pm, Followed by 30 Rock at 8:30pm and ending with The Office at 9pm. The lineup technically also includes newcomer Outsourced at 9:30pm, but after it bumped Amy Poehler’s series Parks and Recreation to a midseason premiere, I became decidedly bitter and boycotted it. So there. Take that, NBC!

Are you a CNDR virgin? Chillax, brah. There’s a show-by-show breakdown after the jump!

Community

What is it?: Community is Dan Harmon’s latest offering to the comedy world. Based on his real life experiences at college, the show follows a cast of likeable but often misguided misfits as they try to scrape whatever joy they can out of attaining a community college degree. The show is entering its second season.

Who’s in it?: The Soup’s Joel McHale stars as Jeff Winger, a disbarred lawyer who needs to go back and attain his degree after it’s revealed that he received his first one under, erm, questionable circumstances. Also look for Donald Glover from online sketch group Derrick Comedy as Troy, the kinda dopey jock that just wants to prove himself. Ken Jeong (he was the naked asian guy from the Hangover that pops out of the trunk – remember that?) plays the devious Spanish teacher Senor Chang. Also, did we mention CHEVY CHASE????? Because, you guys, CHEVY CHASE (!!!!!!) IS TOTALLY IN IT TOO.

We Last saw… The cast gearing up to enter their sophomore year at Greendale Community College.

30 Rock

What is it?: Based on Tina Fey’s experiences on the set of of Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock goes behind the scenes of the fictitious sketch comedy show “TGS with Tracy Jordan.” We watch head writer Liz Lemon struggle to maintain balance and composure on a set filled with diva’d-out cast members, demanding writers, and an occasional meddling guest star or two, all while trying to keep her own life on track.

Who’s in it?: Ms. Fey herself plays Liz Lemon, the sour but relatable central character that tries to anchor and control the constant hellfire threatening to burn her career to the ground. Alec Baldwin plays lemon’s mentor, the suave and put-together businessman Jack Donaghy. Tracy Morgan, naturally, plays the crazy cast member Tracy Jordan. Also keep a lookout for comedy legends Scott Adsit, Jack McBrayer, and Judah Friedlander.

We Last saw… Liz Lemon hit up three weddings in one day while possibly finally meeting the man of her dreams in the process.

The Office

What is it?: The Office is the American adaptation of Ricky Gervais’ hit british sitcom of the same name. It’s a mockumentary style setup that follows daily life in the offices of paper (and more recently printer) supplier Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton PA branch.

Who’s in it?: Second City royalty Steve Carell plays Michael Scott, the totally out-of-touch regional manager. Rainn Wilson is absolutely outstanding as company oddball Dwight Schrute. Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski play the only employees that seem to be remotely normal, Pam Beesly and Jim Halpert.

We Last saw… A massive scandal erupt in the office as someone is caught telling the press about the company’s faulty (and flammable) printers. Also, the show’s resident couple (no spoilers just in case you’re waayyy behind) just had a baby! D’aww!!

Comedy Night Done Right premiered last night, so check back at The Signal for a full review later in the week!
